Redwood Romp--January 6-8, 2017

 

This is a trip to explore some of the largest living life forms and ancient environments.  There will be an opportunity to take two or three hikes deep into the redwoods on Saturday, January 7 and Sunday, January 8.  You will be able to join in multiple hikes during the weekend (or just take in one of the hikes...it will be up to you.

 

This year we will range further afield than in past years, traveling south to Prairie Creeks Redwoods park for the Saturday hike--a long fulfilling day.

 

Hikes Saturday and Sunday will range from about 3-8 miles each.  The routes are mostly on good tread trail, with some ups and downs, some steep sections, plus some cross country off trail bushwacking.  Overall: Moderate to Difficult.

 

Carpooling can be worked out in advance, so email soon if you're interested, and we'll put you in touch with each other in time to work out details.

 

Some accommodations are available in a private home (or camping on the property) in Crescent City.  There are also reasonable hotels in Crescent City.

 

For hiking you will need to bring:

• layers of clothing and full rain gear for a wide range of weather conditions;
• good hiking boots;
• food and water for 2 full day trips;
• other personal items, snacks, etc. you'd like.

Service dogs on leash are OK. (but other dogs are not allowed on park trails).

 

Carpooling and chipping in for gas are encouraged!

 

Travel to Crescent City

 

We'll leave from the Coos Bay Visitors Center at 5 p.m. sharp Friday evening 01/6/2017, with brief stops (if needed) at Ray's in Bandon (~ 5:40), at Battle Rock Visitor Center, Port Orford (~ 6:20), or points south, if needed.

 

Count on ~ 130 miles and ~ 3 hrs. drive from Coos Bay to Crescent City, CA, where we'll be based at a house (no cost; tent and RV space also available if you like).
