Access: From Coos Bay, drive south on US 101 approximately 50 miles to Port Orford. Follow signs from 9th Street, near the big curve in the middle of town. The road climbs up onto high bluffs. Follow the road past the sign that says Port Orford Heads and past the two houses. Then park in the area past the information sign. Setting and Attractions: This is a truly memorable spot on the Oregon coastline with great views of Humbug Mountain and the Pacific. The steep cliffs and offshore islands are particularly stunning. Previously a Coast Guard facility, this area is now a state park. On this trail you can see an old Coast Guard dock. Trail Description: This trail winds along the southern edge of the headlands, connecting to the Tower trail that creates a loop back to the information sign at the trailhead. Close by is Nellies Cove, which holds a former Coast Guard dock. Be sure to watch for Gray whales in December, March, and June.
